Ministering to today’s families

family prayingIs teaching faith formation at home important? Is it necessary for children and youth who attend Sunday school and other church activities on a regular basis?  The answer is a resounding “yes”! Research shows that the family is the most powerful influence on the faith development of children and it is therefore important for churches to partner with families for this task.

PRC recently presented a webinar called “Equipping Families to Teach the Faith to their Children” which offered information on why the family is so important for children’s faith formation, as well as a list of resources to help families take on this responsibility. It also talked about the benefits of intergenerational ministry, where children and youth worship, learn, and serve together with their parents and other adults.

If you’d like to view the recorded webinar you can click here to go to the webinar page of our website.  Just scroll down and you’ll see a list of free recorded webinars on the right side of the page. You can also download a booklet which has all the information from the webinar as well as some additional suggested resources.

We’ll be offering a series of webinars on various aspects of intergenerational and family ministry in early 2015. We will have experts in the field who will be explaining the benefits of intentionally having the generations together and how to expand current ministries to include every age group. Check out our website for more information coming in a few weeks.

  1. I am so glad that you are featuring this. It is of great importance. My book, HOW DO OUR CHILDREN GROW, speaks of sharing faith in families.

As far as intergenerational opportunities, please not only consider my son’s book, ONE BODY: Integrating Teenagers into the Life of Your Church (by Sam Halverson), but you may want to have him work with you on a webinar using his book.

  2. Thanks for your comments Delia. We have been in touch with Sam and he has agreed to do three webinars for us in early 2015 on this topic from the youth ministry perspective.
